As soon as you cross into Guatemala and Central America it seems as if everything changes. The people, the culture, the food, and the dramatic scenery. We slowed down here and spent two weeks but only drove 500 miles. This gave us additional time to appreciate all that the country has to offer.

We were able to visit the main clinic in Zacapa, Guatemala and spend an afternoon seeing what they do. In an impossibly small space, and with a staff of only seven, they are able to build a complete custom fit prosthetic in only 8 hours. This clinic not only builds over 300 prosthetics a year, they also provide physical therapy to help their patients learn how to use their new limb. It’s incredible to be partnered with an organization that is able to provide so much to their patients while still keeping the cost of a fully delivered prosthetic to around $1,000.
